Your Questions Answered – Fitzgerald PT Reopening in the “New Normal”

Our Fitzgerald PT Wes, working with a patient.

Our locations in both Melrose and Woburn have now been open for over 2 weeks and we’ve been learning to work pretty well in the “new normal.” Since many patients are now coming back physically, we’ve received a few questions we’d like to share:

Q: During my appointment, will I be the only one in the clinic with my PT?

A: The answer is no – you will not be alone with just your PT. However, we are staggering our appointments so there are a very limited number of people in the clinic at one time – which allows everyone to stay at least 6 feet apart (if not more) as per recommended by the CDC. Currently the therapists are working approximately 25% of their usual schedules to minimize traffic on site.

Q: Do I have to wear a mask while I am in the clinic? What if I am doing an exercise that makes me breathe heavily?

A: Everyone in the clinic must wear a mask at all times – both employees and patients. Patients should bring their own masks from home to wear. In the case they do not have one, we will provide one for them. Of note patients with underlying medical conditions for whom donning a mask during high intensity exercise is contraindicated may remove a mask for a period of time. We are sure to immediately sterilize this area and keep safe distance between individuals. For further info regarding this, please see the CDC guidelines found here.

Q: If I wash my hands at home before my appointment, do I need to wash them again when I enter the clinic?

A: Everyone must wash their hands upon entering the clinic for at least 20 seconds using soap and water. This goes for both employees and patients.COVID-19 can be spread in many ways – even if you are just traveling from your home to your car and into the building. We need to do everything we can to ensure everyone’s safety. Wearing gloves from your home into the clinic does not negate the need to adhere to these guidelines. We are never sure what your gloves have been in contact with prior to entering the facility. Feel free to wash your hands on site then put on gloves or we can provide new ones for you for your convenience.

Q: I’m still anxious about coming into the clinic but am in pain and really want to avoid going to the hospital. What are the precautions Fitzgerald PT is taking to ensure my safety during my visit?

A: Please know that we at Fitzgerald PT have taken great pains to ensure the safety of both our patients and staff upon reopening. It’s not something we took lightly and planned for weeks on how we would navigate the “new normal.” For a detailed list of all the precautions we are taking, please go here. And don’t forget, we are still offering Telehealth to our patients as well! All you need is a mobile phone, tablet or laptop/desktop with a camera. You can learn more about Telehealth and how it works here.
