At Fitzgerald PT, we love to have students come in and observe – whether in High School, College, or while getting their Doctorate in Physical Therapy. We enjoy helping them learn more about what physical therapy is, how to treat patients, and how a clinic is run.
We’d like to introduce you to Thomas Sica, who interned at Fitzgerald PT for a few weeks in May as part of his High School graduation requirements. He’s going to major in Exercise Science at Merrimack College in the fall. We thought it’d be fun to learn a little more about him and his experience at Fitzgerald PT!

Q&A
Q: Tell us a little more about yourself:
A: Throughout my freshman year of high school, I was always motivated to make more of an environment which had no outstanding benefits or initiative within it. The high school, generally very successful in their education, does not push or motivate their students in a detrimental way. I took notice of this factor, allowing me to return from a hybrid year due to Covid with even more determination in mind. Heavily involved within the band, I used my title as section leader and skills in teaching and talking with others within the percussion section to grow what was available to us.
During the marching season, a time in the band where reliability on crowd involvement and appeal is at its highest, I took the initiative to develop and grow the percussion section, creating a drumline that consisted of incredibly difficult music compared to what was regularly taught.

Q: What made you want to become a Physical Therapist?
A: The fear of a cubicle desk job has always haunted me. With a background in sports, I was never good enough to play professionally, but I also faced the dilemma of not wanting to leave sports behind me entirely. By pursuing PT, I am able to keep that dream alive while continuing to help others just as I always have, something that brings me joy and passion.
Q: What are some of the key things you’ve learned through your internship at Fitz PT?
A: My observations have shown me the hospitable and focus of quality over quantity at Fitzgerald PT. This is something I have grown to appreciate within the field during my first week. Fitzgerald has been welcoming and continues to do their best to involve me, while teaching me important skills.
Q: What did you learn through your community service:
A: That involvement within your community is easy to begin or take initiative with, while having a much larger impact on others than imaged.

Q: What did you learn as a student-athlete that will help you in college?
A: Time management and self determination will bring you success in anything you do, while also making sure to assist those around you in their well being or other personal needs.
As a determined and hardworking individual, I understand the difficulty that comes with succeeding within the PT field. With this understanding, I will make sure to make impactful changes and efforts in my studies to become a PT, who puts forth effort that will leave a lasting impression on my future patients and those around me.

We’d like to wish Thomas the best of luck and Congrats to all those who are graduating in the upcoming weeks! We can’t wait to see all the great things you all will do!
